Organic Cotton Tampons and Pads

For those who like the convenience of tampons or disposable pads, a safer alternative to the standard rayon tampon is an organic cotton tampon.  Organic cotton pads are also slightly better for the environment, and can be much better for your health  (but not as much as reusable products).

Organic cotton is a cotton crop grown without the use of pesticides, so there are less risks of toxins and chemicals from an organic cotton than one that is grown, processed and bleached with harmful chemicals.

As TSS is thought to be as a result of the rayon fibres in the tampons, an all cotton tampon would seem to reduce or eliminate the risks of TSS.  However as they are still a tampon some of the issues with tampons (drying, damage to the vaginal wall etc.) would still be the same with an organic cotton tampon too.

They are at least slightly better for the environment.

There is some speculation as to whether these are actually organic cotton and where they come from.... as well as the integrity of the people involved in the company.
