hello......can anyone supply photos, advertising literature or newspaper articles on the dance (disco) club "THE SCENE" in Adelaide duing the mid to late sixities run by then manager James (Jim) Berry. as a very young teenager i have a few vivid memories of the club in particular watching visiting Newcastle band Reverend Black and his rocking vicars doing their stuff...anything would be greatly appreciated....regards gsb
I was the drummer of the cherokees would like to hear from anybody around that time musos or fans
I keep coming to read up on Deadly Earnest, great interview.
Do any of you guys remember local Adelaide disco's of the 60's like the Scene, Big Daddies. Sgt Peppers, the Octagon, Snoopy's Hollow and the Bay Town Hall. I used to go to these places in '67,'68 and used to live at Tea Tree Gully at the time. I would be interested in hearing from other "old farts" of this era
Sorry, I see you are 22! We're 21 and so was the first Happening.
Hey Sixties Appreciation Society. How is it going? Marie and I are celebrating our 21st Anniversary of go-go dancing this year (if my memory serves me well). And we're still go-going around the melbourne traps. We had our first public appearance at the Sixties Appreciation Society's first HAPPENING!I can also remember typing up the first two issues of 60's scene with Bo - and that was back in the days when we only had typewriters! So Happy Birthday/Anniversary to you as well as us. Hope all is well.

I've been researching Ian Bannerman, alias:"Deadly Earnest" who 1st approached Sydney's "O-Ten" Network with the Original idea of Hosting,Late-Night B-grade Horror & Sci-Fi movies with a "Black
Comedy" type Host Format.Whilst other "Deadly's" in other States, followed in His wake,it was Ian Bannerman, from Coventry,England(His Mother was a famous Theatrical Performer)who sold the idea,to O-Ten at their, then Artarmon Studios.True, the "Other" DE's,are probably more well-known & documented.Ian Bannerman died, some 20-years ago.I have several newspaper clippings & articles & Letters from people who knew Him.
Melbourne Fans who claim, their "DE" is the:"One & Only",are merely full of it,as per usual.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Bruce Howard, former piano player with Billy Thorpe? I'd love to contact him. Great site.
would love to hear any news of Barry Smith is he still doing gigs around town?
fantastic site! The late sixties were the best memories for me, with being regulars to Scene disco in Adelaide (Barry Smith of Town Criers, sorry for bumping into you while dancing to Silhouettes!) What happend to Silhouettes? Later in Melbourne living 'round the corner from Barry and Beeb (Zoot) and going to all Zoot's gigs. Sitting next to Rick Springfield at Darryl Cotton's flat while he did newspaper puzzle! Barry, you may remember Zora and I. We were from Adelaide too and often went to Beeb's Pam's Di's and your flat in St. kilda. Loved Town Criers too! The 60's hold a special place in my heart!
Have been here before and signed the guestbook. Still a great site everyone.I am also looking for contact with any Australian people involved with or possesing any knowledge of the Mod scene here in Australia. From the sixties until now, it's all good.
Please feel free to drop me a line with any related info or pics.
Check out the NEW CD by those Hightone records boys; the Sprague Brothers! It's available at amazon.com & it's called "the Savage Sprague Brothers". If you want PURE rock'n'roll, daddy-o
Hello to all members
I recently discovered that one of my songs, Claudette Jones (Peter & the Silhouettes) had been recorded by a Dutch group, The Firebirds: On Special Request EP 7" (Teenscream Records, 1995, TSR 003)
Claudette Jones (Clancy, Rechter)
Goin' Away Baby (The Grains Of Sand)
Come On, Little Sweetheart (J. Porter)
Mashed Potatoes (J. Brown)
I have never heard this rendition of my song and would dearly love to have a copy.
Is there anyone who can help?
Peter.

The Secrets
Time Will Come CD
The Secrets, Peter Rechter & Graham McCoy, offspring of the Aussie 60’s cult band, The Tol Puddle Martyrs, have remained deeply influenced by the sounds of the 60’s and have kept this spirit alive with integrity and ingenuity. Their CD ‘Time Will Come’, saturated with 60’s riffs, hooks & melodies, is a must for anyone interested in sixties pop brought up to date for the ‘noughties’.
The CD features 10 well crafted tracks, as well as a selection of hidden goodies ( 4 archival tracks from the 60’s & early 80’s) and video clips ( 1968 Tol Puddle Martyrs, ‘82 & ’83 The Secrets ) revealing past secrets. The Secrets crash onto your CD player with ‘Claudette Jones’, a wild 60’s punker, with biting fuzz guitar and snotty vocals. Working their way through a collection of pure pop and power pop gems from the buoyant ‘Good Times Bad Times’ and ‘Feel Pretty Good’ , the self consoling ‘I’m Not Cryin’ to the infectious ‘Think About The Boy ’and ‘S.O.S.’ As they dream ( ‘Catch Me’ ), bop ( ‘All The Way’ ) and rock ( ‘Don’t Let Go’ ) their way to the moody, magnificent, Tol Puddle Martyrs psychedelic drenched hit from 1968, ‘Time Will Come’.
Not bad for guys who could have kicked the habit years ago and remained elusive cult figures.

Love the site, the Deadly Earnest article is great. Some additions: The NSW Deadly was Ian Bannerman, Adelaide's was Hedley Cullen, and Brisbane's was Shane Porteous (later to star in A Country Practice). The episode of "Good Morning Mr. Doubleday" featuring Ralph Baker as Deadly still exists; haven't managed to purloin a copy as yet - but I will!!!
Hi folks just to let any Tyrnaround fans know there's a free mp3 available from the Tyrnaround site at http://users.bigpond.net.au/tyrnaround ... it's from the 1997 60s Happening at the Central Club which was mixed by Guy Lucas of the Freeloaders .. I mastered it from a desk tape kindly provided by Jackie & Maria and I reckon it's downright psychedelic! look for the 'mystery track' ... cheers!
Hello,
Really enjoyed the BoWeevils story, but now how to do I get the cds I don't have? Can anyone help? Will gladly trade.
Hi Jackie, just happened across your site and felt quite touced by your Bo Weevil page, it brought back memories alright! I've started jamming with Nino again, playing psych raga type impros and a few songs, we might decide to play live again, another step on the long road to aural bliss perhaps....thanks again and see you around.

One minor correction in the short history of the Kommotion TV Show. Ian Turpie (love him as I do) was never a regular guest. Matter of fact can never recall him appearing on the show.Regards

I cannot believe there is a Deadly Earnest web site. Deadly left quite an impression om my chilhood not to mention having a few chuckles along the way. I remember one episode when deadly hopped into his coffin at the end of the show as per norm, thought the camera was off him and suddenly the lid flew off at a million miles an hour so he could get out. What a bloody hoot !!
Cheers to D.E and all who rember him.

Great site. This takes me back to growing up in Auss. The best time of my life!!!!!!
Its great to see that I am not alone in my love for sixties music particularly oz bands and artists. I saw an excellent sixties memorabilia display at Hastings in Feb. Its also great to see people working so hard to capture and maintain the memories and emotions of that time - and that includes this great site. I will definitely be attending at upcoming shows.
Keep up the good work.
It's oft said that if you remember the sixties you weren't really there- rubbish! I lived them and remember them well..I was a great fan of the Sydney Deadly Earnest, Ian Bannerman and actually won a prize from the show!
My all time fav show was The Samurai-please, please, bring back Shintaro and Tombei!!!
I often use snippets of song lyrics from the sixties to enhance the articles I write for Australian Iron Man magazine.....
A fine site!

Interesting site, how about adding a few more oldies ? eg: Ray Brown/The Whispers, Merv Benton, Billy Adams, Peter Doyle, Tony Worsley/The Blue Jays - should I stop now or go on ? I spent time between Sydney and Melbourne in the 60's great to see someone is still holding onto the memory. Then there was Zoot, Mike Furber, MPD LTD, Lynne Randell ...........
Nice site, keep on keeping on!
Cool n' Groovy guys. Keep on Keepin' on n' all. Just found the site and the combination of paper mag and web is a very good thing indeedy.
