Awww...
11th January 2005, 5.18pm

Fifty cents will buy you this wee egg!

This little guy showed up in the laying box of our chook-shed this morning. Despite all appearances to the contrary, this is not a pigeon egg. This guy came straight out of the cloaca of a chicken. Not a bantam, either. Hilda, who is the prime suspect here, is your basic full-sized ex-battery Isa Brown hen. Before anyone gets too excited, I should point out that we don't have a rooster, so there's no cute little teeny tiny chicken hiding in there or anything.

Now all we need is to find someone with an extremely small pig...

Postscript 12th Jan:
We cracked the wee thing open this morning during the daily poaching ceremony. No yolk. All albumen. Poached it anyway, along with another egg-sized fully-yolked googy, and the white from the wee one separated in the pot to become a teeny mouthful that sat on the toast all by itself, away from the other egg. How cute?
