Busy Times at the House of Ford!
5th August 2004, 10.26am

Howdy, True Believers! Gee, there's been so much goings-on in the ol' House of Procrastination of late that we can't help but feel all sorta warm inside. And being the generous souls that we are, we wanna share that warmth around, for what it's worth. Anyway, here's a rundown of what's been happening in the world of Ford of late:

ITEM! Floridian science-poet and brainy blogger Grant Balfour has been given a guest spot on Fluxblog to upload three mp3s, and he's chosen three tracks with a personal connection to Yours Truly! The main reason we mention it is that the generous hosts of the blog of Flux have allowed Mister B. to upload an mp3 that we sent him ages back, a live recording of You Should Have Killed the Monkey First, a NeoPulp poem I wrote with my own two typing fingers! The other two mp3s are taken from a mix tape I made for Mister B way back when. This is no paid advertisement, just a gesture of friendship from across the briny Pacific that leaves little-old-me lost for words. The mp3s are up for a limited time, as they say in the classics, so don't shilly shally about it!

ITEM! This weekend just gone we spent our entire Sunday tap-tapping out what we hope was intelligent criticism concerning the world of sequential fiction (that's comics to you laypeople out there!), and the first of these endeavours is now online at PopImage, home of the most brain-bogglingly intelligent discussion of comics this side of Uatu the Watcher's book club! The review in question deals with the latest issue of Eightball - number 23 to be precise - by none other than Daniel Clowes himself!

ITEM! The British world of letters was shocked to find that overnight their bookstores had been stocked with fresh-from-the-freight-container never-before-opened copies of Man Bites Dog! August 1 marked the books' entry into the United Kingdom. Review copies have been sent out and now it's time to play the waiting game! Someone pass us the rulebook! In the meantime, readers of this humble blog who reside on the British Isles may choose to take this opportunity to stroll down to their nearest purveyor of books and either pluck a copy of MBD from the "new releases" shelves or, if the volume in question is nowhere to be found, said Brits can order said book from the local distributors, Orion Books. Tell them we said hi!

ITEM! While we're on the topic of Man Bites Dog, the Australian Publishers Association have recently nominated said novel for the 2003 Griffin Press Best Designed Young Adult Novel award! A longer title or more specific category was never heard by us! Congratulations to Hofstede Design for their tremendous work on the eye-catching cover and impeccable interior design! More on this as news surfaces...

ITEM! It's gig city here at the House of Ford, with appearances lined up as part of the Overload Festival and the Melbourne Writers Festival, as well as two writer-in-residence gigs at Xavier College and Fairhills College in Melbourne, and an appearance as Master of Ceremonies at the State Library of Victoria! Check the Gigs pages for more details!

Phew! If we were any busier we'd be twins! Until next time, true believers, remember to keep smiling and keep coming back to the House of Ford!

Exelsior!
