Bragalicious.
22nd September, 2004
More review and prizes news dealing with everyone's
favourite twenty-something postal-focused inner-city comedy/mystery
of 2003.
First up, the guys at Hofstede Design scored
a win in the Best Designed Young Adult Book category of the 2004
Australian Publishing Association Awards for their work on Man
Bites Dog. Big ups to Hofstede for making my words look so
good, and wahey for any design award that gives kudos to Kid Shiva
and his pals.
Next up, word on the street is that there's gonna
be a review of MBD in a forthcoming issue of the Guardian. First
the Independent, now the Guardian. Can the London
Review of Books be far behind? Yes, it can.
The Independent review was also reprinted
(well, a truncated version of the first half, anyway) in the Belfast
Telegraph's Twentyfourseven lifestyle magazine as
one of a pair of reviews under the title "Hiplit: Books for
him and her". The other review was Anne Tyler's The Amateur
Marriage. Presumably I'm the "for him". It's kind
of weird appearing in the same review as someone I studied in high-school.
Hiplit, hey? Works for me.
And speaking of the review in the Independent,
there's a scan of it (complete with a picture of some other book's
cover) over in the Press section now, as well as the mini-synopsis
review that accompanied the listing in the Children's Book Council
of Australia's Notable Children's Books 2004. Also new
on the Press page are two online reviews that have been kicking
around for a while, one of which was written by an erudite 16-year-old
by the name of Hassan.
