1. Fairhaven Beach Camp Site

1. Fairhaven is located 4 km from the Tankerton jetty, it is run by Parks Victoria. See Parks Vic net site. It is small, free, quite cosy under the tee trees, is right next to a nice beach, has only one toilet and a tap, and what you bring in you must take away. ie all rubbish. Also, you must carry or cycle all your camping gear to the site. There is no vehicle transport available to help in this regard. However if you have an accident etc, ring the store on 5980 1209 and I am sure they will do everything possible to arrange someone to help you.

There are no fires, drinking or guns. I recommend you ring Parks information number 13 1963 (for a permit) or (03)5980 1294 (the FI rangers office). Also you could try Julie at the General Store on 5980 1209, but please dont ring after 7pm.

Obviously, there is no electricity, no lighting. It is rugged, but with atmosphere. I like it. (Rod.)

2. BayView Camping Ground and Historic Chicory Kiln tea-rooms.

Bayview Camping is a private spot, ring Lois on 5980 1241. Tell her Rod referred you. Bayview is in the middle of French Island, so you will probably need transport if you cant ride your bikes or are not walkers.

3. Mc Leod Eco Farm and Historic Prison

Unpowered camp sites can be arranged at McLeod. Talk to Mark or Melinda on 03 - 5678 0155. It will cost a little to use shower facilities etc. Very reasonable. McLeod has a nice beach, and outlook, but remember, it is private property, so you must show courtesy and ask permission.
