French Island is 60 Km from Melbourne and is little over one hour by car or train, followed by a 12 minute ferry ride. 

 

  HOW TO GET TO FRENCH ISLAND

Remember: French Island is Victoria's Natural Escape, Heart of Western Port

1. By Car to Stony Point, then Ferry
  • Via Frankston (Nepean or Frankston freeways) or: 
  • Via Dandenong (South East Arterial to Hastings) 
  • Park in Stony Point public car park, 
  • 200 metre walk along jetty to ferry pick up point,
  • tour coaches, cars can drive on the jetty, to off-load passengers and luggage. (Watch for fishermen!.)

2. By Train to Stony Pt, then catch Ferry
  • Catch suburban train to Frankston 
  • Country Train from Frankston, uses suburban network Zone 3 metropolitian ticket. (very cheap) 
  • ring 13 22 32 for VLINE timetable information.

3. WALK from car or station, down the jetty, turning right to ferry boarding point.

If you have organised someone to pick you up when you get to French Island, (eg tour/accommodation operators) this 150 metre walk is the most exposed you will be to the weather. WE SUGGEST YOU DRESS APPROPRIATELY

4. By Car to Cowes, Phillip Island or Stony Pt, then using Bay Connections Ferry (Bay Connections Home Page) .
  • Bay Connections, offer prebooked "scheduled" services from Cowes (Phillip Island) which only operate if there are sufficient bookings.
  • Bay Connections Schedule etc
  • French Island Eco Tours in association with Bay Connections run French Island luncheon/tours departing Cowes at 12.00 pm Sundays & Thursdays (subject to bookings) and in the busy summer period on January Tuesdays as well) returning at approximately 5.20 pm.
  • Note: French Island Eco Tours also depart Stony Point at 12.00 noon on Inter-Island Ferries (see below)

 

4. Stony Pt - French Island - Phillip Island Ferry Service
  • Operate a 7 day service, bikes ($2) welcome.
  • Bookings are not generally necessary, but if in doubt, will be arranged by tour or accommodation operators. 
  • Independant travellers such as bush walkers and cyclists, try 9585 5730
  • French Island Eco Tours use the 12.00 noon Sunday and Thursday ferries and other days STRICTLY BY ARRANGEMENT. Tours are structured to meet train times, etc. Please ring 1300 30 70 54 or mobile 0429 177 532

However, it is a good, modern ferry, seats 74 passengers, and was commissioned in December 1998
