Certificate IV in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment and Training

The course has been established in response to an identified need for trainers and tutors to be skilled in delivering the language, literacy and numeracy skills training to a range of clients.

This course provides the following skills:

  • knowledge and use of the National Reporting System (NRS)
  • use of Training Packages to determine vocational language, literacy and numeracy requirements
  • developing assessments in language, literacy and numeracy to suit clients or a vocation or an industry

This course will provide the language, literacy and numeracy training knowledge and skills which may be used to train or tutor

  • Trainer in the community/workplace
  • Supervisor/mentor in the community/workplace
  • Vocational tutor
  • Language/ESL or literacy or numeracy trainer/tutor
  • Workplace trainer
  • Indigenous mentors/tutors
  • Specialist tutors ie working with disabled clients

Course Outline

All units of competency in the course are core and the total nominal hours are 520. Specific units can be completed for a partial qualification. The course comprises the following units of competency

Assess Language, Literacy and Numeracy Client

  • identification of LLN needs; development of LLN assessment tools, tasks, or kit to suit individual, local area, industry, or enterprise; assess LLN skills of individual

LLN402

Plan A Language, Literacy And Numeracy Training Program

  • map NRS to Training Package requirements per unit for client's vocational aims; design training plan for client from current level of skills to level required by units of C or personal need against the NRS level; develop or source resources/materials to support training

LLN403

Deliver A Language, Literacy And Numeracy Program

  • provide instruction in basic reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills using a variety of strategies; utilise or develop forms to monitor progress of client and document changes in skill levels against the NRS

Perform Language, Literacy And Numeracy Exit Assessment

  • determine exit level of client against the NRS and TP level; document final results in comparison with initial assessment
