Whale and Whale-Watching Boat, Platypus Bay Queensland.
There are actually two whales in this picture - a mother and calf - but
you have to look very closely to see the second splash. While we were watching
this pair of whales, the baby showed off for the cameras, leaping, splashing,
tail-slapping and generally having fun, but the mother was a lot quieter.
The long strip of land at the back of the photo is actually the Western
side of Fraser Island. The whales come into the sheltered bay to calve
each spring, so they are generally relatively easy for the tour boats to
find.
