Why do I write?

For as long as I can remember, I've been getting ideas for poems. The first time I can remember sitting down to write a 'poem' I was only five (it was a piece of doggeral about a peacock showing off his tail feathers, and it is mercifully no longer found on this plane of existence). I was very proud of it at the time, and it was just the first of many. Since then, I've  probably dreamed up close to a  hundred poems. Occasionally, I've had the opportunity to write them down, and even more occasionally, I've liked the end result. Here are just a few of them, but I'll be adding more when I get around to it.

A jumble of words
Piled on the page
For others to read.

Poetry is...
Hard to write
But always
Easy to read.

Poetry is...
A way to express
The deepest emotions
We hide in our hearts.

Poetry is...
A special type of magic
That calls to
The Reader's Soul.

Challenge ('95)

An empty page
is a challenge
to the writer.
Thoughts,
Hopes, and Dreams
are all waiting to go down
on paper,
To say something
that's never
been said
before.
