Consecrating Ritual tools  (by Obsidian)

There are many ways..... I personally do it this way:

Place the item on the pentacle, point the Athame or Wand to the item (you can use a finger if you don't have an Athame or wand consecrated yet) and say:     (the * are for notes - see below):

"I consecrate thee, O' creature of ......(*)
For the Element of ....... (**)
May you serve me well, and harm none!
In the names of the Goddess and God, (***)
and by the powers of Earth (****)
Air (*****)
Fire (******)
and Water  (*******)
Thou art consecrated!"

*  whatever the item is made from  (wood, steel, plastic etc.)
**  each tool has a corresponding element:
           Pentacle = Earth
           Chalice = Water
           Censer = Air
Athame = Fire (some people say Air)
Wand = Air  (some people say Fire)
***  hold the item to the Goddess candle, then to the God one
****  sprinkle salt on it
*****  pass it through the incense smoke
******  pass it (quickly) through the candle flame
*******  sprinkle water on it

Simple Circle Casting Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up an Altar.  (To see how I set up my Altar - please go to the Magickal Infomation  page and for a full detailed instructions for setting up the circle, please go to the second Magickal Info page)

I have a white or red Altar candle, a Purple Goddess Candle and a Red God Candle.  You can use the following colours though:

Goddess: Green, Blue, White, Grey, Silver, Purple.
God:  Yellow, Orange, Red, Gold.

Place your ritual tools (Please see the Magickal Info section for more information on ritual tools) on the altar with a small bowl of sea salt (normal salt will do) and one of water (preferably from a creek/river etc. or rain water).  You should now have a symbol of each element on the Altar (Air = Incense, Earth = Salt, Water = Water and Fire = Altar candle) and a ritual tool for each element (Although if you are missing one - it doesn't matter)  Athame = Fire (some say air), Wand = Air (although some say Fire), Pentacle = Earth, Chalice = Water.  If you cannot have these on the Altar, (due to space, or not having the tools) you may use a ceramic/pottery Essential  oil burner.  The Water in the bowl part symbolises Water, the scented steam is Air, the candle is Fire and the pottery is Earth

Place a Red candle in the Northern point of the circle.  Place a Green candle in the Southern point of the circle.  Place a Yellow candle in the Eastern point of the circle.  Place a Blue candle in the Western point of the circle.  (please note:  These are Southern Hemisphere directions, in the Northern Hemisphere Fire (red) is South and Earth (Green) is North).  If you wish to mark out the circle using stones, feathers, ribbon or cord, a chalk mark etc.  you may do this (I find it easier to mark out the circle once the quarter points are in place.)  I personally don't mark out the circle, I instead place a white candle in between the Elemental candles.  I use those "Restaurant" candles (the ones in glass containers) for my Elemental and circle candles as they don't blow out when outside, and they are less likely to be knocked over and do not drip.

Take the bowl of salt, and walk deosil around the Circle, sprinkle a little as you walk, saying:

“ With Salt I purify this Circle, may no harm enter within.”

When you have finished, replace the salt on the Altar.  If you have a Besom (Broom) you can “sweep” from the centre of the circle outward to remove any negativity in your circle space (“sweep” a few cm above the floor, but don’t actually touch the floor).

Outide the circle, take a large bowl of salt water, and place your hands into it – releasing any negativity you have into the water.  Dry your hands and throw the water away.  “Smudge” yourself by using a Smudge stick (A bunch of dried sage (usually white sage) that you light and let the smoke waft over you.)  If you don't have a smudge stick, you can use Sage, Frankincense or Sandalwood incense, either on a charcoal block (you can waft it using a feather) or as a stick.  Waft the smoke all around you to purify yourself.

Enter the circle and pick up the bowl of water from the Altar, add a few pinches of salt to it, and walk around the Circle sprinkling some as you go, say:

“Of Salt and Sea, may ill stay free.
Around, around, the Circle be bound.”

Replace the bowl.  Light the Censer and Altar candle, carry these around the Circle (If you can't, the hold just the incense, as it's smoldering will represent Fire)  as you say:

“Of Fire and Air, draw all that is fair.
Around, around, the Circle be bound.”

Replace the candle and censer.  Take your Athame or Wand (if you do not own one of these ritual tools, you may use your index finger), and walk around the Circle, in a deosil direction (, imagining white light streaming out from the Athame/Wand/Finger to create a Circle of fire.  As you walk around a second time, imagine the fire growing higher and higher, spreading out under the ground as well.  As you walk around for the third and final time, imagine the fire closing up over the top of you, and joining up under the ground to create a sphere.  When you have finished, stand in the centre of the circle with arms up and say:

“I cast this magick circle,
that it be a boundary between this world,
and that of the Spirit realm.
As above  [reach to the sky],
So below [point to the ground],
the circle is cast!”

Walk over to the Northern candle, light it.  Stand with arms outstretched, feet slightly apart, saying:

“Hail Guardian of the Watchtower of the North,
Element of Fire.
I call upon thee to guard and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
So mote it be!”

Repeat for The East (Air), South (Earth) and West (Water).  Return to the Altar.  Stand before the Goddess candle (a Silver/white candle), and light it.  Stand with arms outstretched, feet slightly apart, saying:

“Holy Mother of the Earth,
Shining lady of the moon,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving Goddess,
into my Circle.”

Stand before the God candle (a Gold/yellow/red candle), and light it.  Stand with arms crossed over your chest, feet together (like a Pharaoh position), saying:

“Holy Father of the Sky,
Blazing Lord of the Sun,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving God,
into my Circle.”

You may now perform any spells, Sabbat rituals etc. you wish.  I like to do banishings in all my rituals.  To do this, take a pen and paper, and write all the negative things you wish to banish.  If possible, burn this paper, either in a cauldron, or in a large heatproof bowl, if this is not possible, then simply throw the paper into a stream or river to be carried away, or bury it in the ground.  As you discard of the paper say:

“I banish …<whatever it is>…
I have no need for this any more,
I banish it away.
So mote it be!”

If you wish to raise a cone of power, start by walking around the circle, chanting or singing, and get louder and faster until you feel ready to stop.  When you are ready shout, throw your hands up and imagine all the energy you were creating shooting out through the top of the Circle out to where it is needed.  If you are less active,  you can sit on the ground and rock from side to side, getting faster and faster.  I use the rocking method with my Circle group and it works very well.  After raising power, it is necessary to ground yourself to remove any excess energy that didn’t leave the circle.  To do this, kneel on the ground with your palms and forehead on the floor, or lie face down on the floor.  Feel all the excess energy draining from you and the circle.  Not your energy, just the excess energy from the cone of power.  When you are ready, you can sit up.

Now it is time for the simple feast, Also called “Cakes and Ale”.  Pour some wine, juice or other drink into the Chalice, dip the tip of the Athame into it saying:

“In like fashion may Male join Female for the happiness of both”

Drink some wine.  Take a plate of cookies or other foods, place the tip of the Athame to them saying:

“This food is the blessing of the Gods to our bodies. It sustains us.”

Have some of the cookies.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God, which you should sprinkle on the ground outside.

When you are ready to end the Circle, stand before the Goddess candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess,
I thank you for your assistance and protection,
Both within this Circle,
and in my life.
I now bid you farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Blow or pinch out her candle.  Repeat for the God.  Stand infront of the Fire candle and say:

"Farewell Guardian of the Watchtower of the North,
I thank you for your assistance and protection,
Both within this Circle,
and in my life.
I now bid you farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Repeat for the other elements (in reverse order to your invocations), blowing out their candle after each one.  Walk Widdershins around the Circle, imagine the white fire that created the circle retracting back into your Athame/Wand/finger.  Walk around doing this 3 times, return to the Altar, put down the Athame/Wand and say:

“May the circle be open,
but unbroken”

It is done!

Simple Dark Moon Ritual  (by Obsidian)

This uses Southern Hemisphere directions, please note that in the NH North = Earth and South = Fire

Set up a simple Altar.  Place a black or dark red candle in a candleholder on the Altar.  You may like to have some representation of the Goddess in her Crone (old woman) aspect on the Altar, such as a picture or a statue of  the Goddesses Hecate or Kali.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.  Have all the other items close to the Altar, so that you will have them on hand.  Set up the Circle and Elemental Candles.  Take the bowl of salt, and walking deosil around the circle, sprinkle a little as you walk, saying:

“ With Salt I purify this circle, may no harm enter within.”

When you have finished, replace the salt on the Altar.  Take your Athame or Wand (if you do not own one of these ritual tools, you may use your index finger), and walk around the circle, in a deosil direction, imagining white light streaming out from the Athame/Wand/Finger to create a circle of fire.

Repeat for the other Elements.  Return to the Altar.  Stand before the Goddess candle, and light it.  Stand with arms outstretched, feet slightly apart, saying:

“Holy Mother of the Earth,
Wise lady of the moon,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, Wise One,
into my circle.”

The dark moon is a time of letting go of any past ideas or influences that you don’t need any more.  It is also a time for wisdom (ask the Goddess for help on a subject if you need her advice – then pay attention to your dreams) and banishing. Take a pen and paper, and write all the negative things you wish to banish.  If possible, burn this paper, either in a cauldron, or in a large heatproof bowl, if this is not possible, then simply throw the paper into a stream or river to be carried away.  As you discard of the paper say:

“Grandmother Crone, banish …<whatever it is>…
I have no need for this any more,
please banish it away.
So mote it be!”

The Crone aspect of the Goddess is a powerful protector.  If you are in need of protection at this time, whether physical or spiritual, you may ask her to protect you.  You may wish to chant the Goddess chant as you imagine a sphere of protection around yourself:

“Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Innana.”

You can now hold the simple feast, drink dark drinks such as coffee or tea, and eat dark foods, such as chocolate cake (Yum yum).  You may like to make special cookies in the shape of a round moon, and colour them as dark as you can (and still be able to eat them).  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth. When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the Goddess candle and say:

“Farewell Wise and loving Goddess,
I thank you for your wisdom and protection,
Both within this circle, and in my life.
I now bid you farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Blow or pinch out her candle.  Return to the Western candle, say:

“Farewell Guardian of the Watchtower of the West,
I thank you for your assistance within this circle.
I bid you now farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Blow or pinch out the West candle.  Repeat the above for each of the remaining Elements, Earth, Air and Fire.  When you have said farewell to the Northern Guardian, Blow or pinch out the Altar candle, and pick up your Athame or wand, or  use your finger  (whichever you used to cast the circle).  Walking widdershins around the circle, imagine the white fire that created the circle retracting back into the Athame or Wand.  Walk around 3 times, and when you have returned to the northern point again, put down the Athame/Wand and say:

“May the circle be open, but unbroken”

 It is done!

Simple Full Moon Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up a simple Altar where you can see the moon, preferably outside.  (If performing the ritual outside, it may be necessary to place the candles in heat proof  cups, to avoid breezes blowing the flame out.  If this is not possible, leave the candles unlit, it will not affect the ritual to leave them unlit).

Place a silver/white candle in a candleholder on the Altar.  You may like to have some representation of the Goddess on the Altar, such as a shell, a picture or a statue of a Goddess.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.  Have all the other items close to the Altar, so that you will have them on hand.  Place the Elemental candles and mark out the circle.

Repeat for the other Elements.  Return to the Altar.  Stand before the Goddess candle, and light it.  Stand with arms outstretched, feet slightly apart, saying:

“Holy Mother of the Earth,
Shining lady of the moon,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving Goddess,
into my circle.”

You are now ready to perform any spells you wish to do, or you might like to say a poem to the Goddess, or sit in quiet contemplation under the moonlight.  You can draw down the moon, which is where you point your Athame (or wand or finger) to the moon, and imagine energy from the moon flowing into you.  You can use this energy to do spells etc.  Make sure you ground afterwards though.  (if you are inside, hold the Athame to the ceiling)

Another thing you can do during a full moon is to make holy water from the moonlight.  Take a large white or silver bowl.  (If you do not have one, line a large bowl with silver foil), fill it with water, and hold it up where it can catch the moonlight.  Add a pinch of salt to the water, and say:

“I consecrate thee O’ creature of water,
And bless thee in the name of the Goddess,
Under the moon, by my power,
Thou art Blessed and consecrated!”

Add a few tsp of Rose water or lavender water (this isn't neccessary though) You have now made holy water, place this in a bottle, and save it to use in stead of normal water your rituals, or you can add crystals or herbs and empower this water for healings, or any other purpose you feel is necessary.

You can now hold the simple feast, drink  milk or lemonade, and eat white cookies or other foods you have brought into the circle.  You may like to make special cookies in the shape of crescent moons for this special occasion.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth. When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the Goddess candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess,
I thank you for your assistance and protection,
Both within this circle, and in my life.

“May the circle be open,
but unbroken”

 It is done!

Simple Imbolc (Candlemas)  Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up a simple Altar.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.  Have a small doll on the altar, this symbolises the Goddess Bride (Brigid) as this Sabbat is dedicated to her (You may wish to make one specially, or use a child’s dolly).  Have all the other items close to the Altar, so that you will have them on hand.  Place the Elemental candles and mark out the circle.  Take the bowl of salt, and walking deosil around the circle, sprinkle a little as you walk, saying:

“ With Salt I purify this circle,
may no harm enter within.”

When you have finished, replace the salt on the Altar.  Take your Athame or Wand (if you do not own one of these ritual tools, you may use your index finger), and walk around the circle, in a deosil direction, imagining white light streaming out from the Athame/Wand/Finger to create a circle of fire.

As above [point to the sky],
So below [point to the ground],
the circle is cast!”

Walk over to the Northern candle, light it.  Stand with arms outstretched, feet slightly apart, saying:

“Hail Guardian of the Watchtower of the North,
Element of Fire.
I call upon thee to guard and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
So mote it be!”

Repeat for the remaining Elements.

Stand with arms crossed over your chest, feet together, saying:

“Holy Father of the Sky,
Blazing Lord of the Sun,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving God,
into my circle.”

Imbolc is a time of the rebirth of the light.  Winter is ending and the wheel is turning towards summer.  Imbolc celebrates the return of the Sun, and of the God.  It is traditional to light many candles or turn on every light in your house (even if only for a moment) to symbolise the returning Sun.  Since Imbolc represents the returning of life, it is a good time for fertility.  Take the Bride doll in your hands and hold it close to your heart.  This doll represents the Goddess, so tell it all the areas of your life in which need help.

Imbolc is a time for new beginnings, so ask the Goddess for help in any endeavours you will be starting at this time.  Now is a powerful time for blessings, purification, and “starting out new”.  Celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring by writing a list of all the things you dislike about winter and a list of all the things you enjoy about spring.  Wrap the Spring list around the winter one to symbolise spring taking over from winter to bring about all the things you enjoy.

You can now hold the simple feast, eat white foods, particularly dairy  products as these are the sacred foods of Imbolc.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.  Thank the doll for representing the Goddess and put it back in its place.
When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the Goddess candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess,
I thank you for your assistance and protection,
Both within this circle, and in my life.
I now bid you farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Blow or pinch out her candle.  Repeat for the God candle. Return to the Western candle, say:

“Farewell Guardian of the Watchtower of the West,
I thank you for your assistance within this circle.
I bid you now farewell,
may you go in peace and love.
Blessed be.”

Blow/pinch out the West candle.  Repeat the above for each of the remaining Elements.  When you have said farewell to the Northern Guardian, walk widdershins around the circle, imagining the white fire that created the circle retracting back into your Athame/Wand/finger.  Walk around doing this 3 times, and when you have returned to the northern point again, put down the Athame/Wand and say:

“May the circle be open,
but unbroken”

It is done!

Simple Lammas (Lughnassadh)  Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up a simple Altar.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.

Repeat for the other Elements.  Return to the Altar.

Stand with arms crossed over your chest, feet together, saying:

“Holy Father of the Sky,
Blazing Lord of the Sun,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving God,
into my circle.”

Close your eyes and mediate on the past few months, and think of all the good things that have happened in that time.  Lammas is a time for transformation, and any negative feelings you have been holding onto can be discarded now.  Take a pen and paper, and write all the negative things you wish to banish.  If possible, burn this paper, either in a cauldron, or in a large heatproof bowl, if this is not possible, then simply throw the paper into a stream or river to be carried away.  As you discard of the paper say:

“I banish …<whatever it is>…
I have no need for this any more,
I banish it away in the Lughnassadh flame.
So mote it be!”

Stand before the altar and say:

“As the wheel turns from Summer into Autumn,
I give thanks for all the blessings I have received.
And look forward to those blessings that lay before me”

You can meditate on the positive things you wish to have in the coming months.  You can now hold the simple feast, eat breads, seeds, nuts and the fruits of the season.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.

When you have said farewell to the Northern Guardian, walk around the circle widdershins, imagining the white fire that created the circle retracting back into your Athame/Wand/finger.  Walk around doing this 3 times, and when you have returned to the northern point again, put down the Athame/Wand and say:

“May the circle be open,
but  unbroken”

 It is done!

Simple Litha (Summer Solstice)  Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up a simple Altar.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.

Repeat for the other Elements.  Return to the Altar.

Stand with arms crossed over your chest, feet together, saying:

“Holy Father of the Sky,
Blazing Lord of the Sun,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving God,
into my circle.”

Litha is a time to rejoice in the warmth of summer.  The Sun is at it’s most powerful, and now is a time to do any magick for energy and action.  Litha is sacred to the God. It is traditional to light a fire at this time, which you leap over to bring purification. If it is not possible to light a fire, place a white candle in a cauldron or bowl, and jump that instead. (CAREFULLY)

At Litha day is longer than the night , but from this point onward, the days grow shorter as the light begins to diminish as the wheel turns towards winter.  Take a piece of paper and write on it something you would like the Sun God to grant you.  Burn this paper in the Sacred fire (or candle if you didn’t light a fire).  To help strengthen the magick, be sure to show your appreciation to the Sun God by talking a walk through a sunny park, or simply sitting in the sun and enjoying the warmth and energy it provides.  You can now hold the simple feast, eat Summery foods, such as salads and cold meats.  After the ritual you may like to have a traditional summer favourite… a BBQ  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.  When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the God candle and say:

 It is done!

Simple Mabon (Autumn Equinox)  Ritual  (by Obsidian)

Set up a simple Altar.  Place Salt in a small bowl upon the Altar.

Repeat for the other Elements.  Return to the Altar.

Stand with arms crossed over your chest, feet together, saying:

“Holy Father of the Sky,
Blazing Lord of the Sun,
I call upon thee to assist and protect,
to lend your power to mine.
Welcome, loving God,
into my circle.”

Close your eyes and mediate on the things in your life which need completion.  Visualise that they be completed, and that you have abundance in your life.  Look at the bowl of leaves in front of you, pick up each leaf, and as you hold it, say a word of thanks for something good that has happened in your life, and then set them aside, to be thrown into a stream or river after the ritual.  When you have used all the leaves, place them all back into the bowl, so that you can carry them off after the ritual.

Stand before the altar and say:

“We stand now at the midpoint of Autumn,
I give thanks for all the blessings I have received.
And look forward to those blessings that lay before me”

You can meditate on the positive things you wish to have in the coming months.  You can now hold the simple feast of cider and grains, vegetables and the fruits of the season.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.  When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the God candle and say:

Close your eyes and mediate on the past year, and think of all the good things that have happened in that time.  If you wish to contact spirits or do any divination, now is the best time, as Samhain is a time when the earthly plane is closest to the spirit realm.  It is traditional to leave a small gift of food on your back doorstep (or close by) for the souls of the recently departed to eat as they journey to the otherworld.  An apple is sometimes used for this.

A simple divination exercise is to take a pen and paper, and clearing your mind, write down any thoughts that pop into your head, these may hold secrets and information from the other side for you.  Do not be discouraged if you do not receive any messages, sometimes you must walk the path of unknown!

This is a time to say goodbye to any loved ones who have died, and a time to start anew.  If you wish to banish something in your life (Negativity, fear etc.) now is a good time to do it. Take a pen and paper, and write all the negative things you wish to banish.  If possible, burn this paper, either in a cauldron, or in a large heatproof bowl, if this is not possible, then simply throw the paper into a stream or river to be carried away.  As you discard of the paper say:

“I banish …<whatever it is>…
I have no need for this any more,
I banish it away.
So mote it be!”

You can do traditional Halloween things such as carve pumpkins and trick or treat if you wish - as these have Pagan roots.  You can now hold the simple feast, eat breads, seeds, nuts and the fruits of the season.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.  When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the God candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess,

Sometimes we feel frustrated at this time, as it is cold and sometimes miserable. Remember that there are nice things about wintertime, and make a list of them.  Things like drinking hot chocolate on a really cold day, snuggling with a loved one in front of the fire.  When you have your list, thank the Goddess and God for all the nice things about the colder months.  Keep this list somewhere you will see it often, and whenever you feel depressed about winter, look over the list again, and remember the good things about this season.

If you can arrange a party for this time, have a hearty banquet of winter foods (such as stews, hearty soups with fresh baked bread, roasts etc.) and enjoy the warmth of friendships.  If you cannot have a party, then treat yourself to a banquet for one (or however many people you can invite over), making rich foods that warm you.   Activities to do at this time are things like ice skating and building snowpeople (if you don’t have snow, you can make them out of the frost in your freezer, or, if you are crafty you can make them out of polystyrene balls!). You can now hold the simple feast (you can hold your banquet now if you like), eat breads, seeds, nuts and the fruits of the season, hearty stews or traditional winter roasts.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth.  When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the God candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess,
I thank you for your assistance and protection,
Both within this circle, and in my life.

When you have said farewell to the Northern Guardian, walk around the circle widdershins, imagining the white fire that created the circle retracting back into your Athame/Wand/finger.  Walk around doing this 3 times, and when you have returned to the northern point again, put down the Athame/Wand and say:

Circle Cast (by Jacob Walker)

This was sent to me by someone who says they have permission to pass this on.  If you have a problem with it's use here, please e-mail me and I will remove it.

Stand where you want the center of your circle to be and visualize a protective bubble around you using any method to form the bubble that you wish.  As you visualize it, chant this:

I form a magick circle
to protect me in this place,
Bring in the forces that are best for my work
and may no evil show its face,
From this working that I do
may no evil this place know,
The circle is cast and sealed,
As I will it, let it be so.

Beltane is the time of fertility, where we celebrate the fertility of the fields.  It is a time to celebrate the union of the Goddess and God, and this is symbolised by weaving and plaiting… and this can be done with a maypole.  You can either make a large maypole and have friends dance around with you (to do this you will need a wooden rod (dowel works fine) about  10 foot long.  Attach ribbons for each person (even numbers) about 25 foot long each length, to the top of the pole.  You can add a decorative ball or flowers to the top.  Start by selecting a ribbon and paring off.  Each pair faces eachother, and everyone starts by taking a step with their right foot.  The person on the outside should hold up the ribbon, so that the person on the inside can go under, then as everyone takes a step forward to greet the next person, the outside person crosses into the inside, and the inside person crosses outward.  So that each person is weaving in and out.  Keep the ribbons taught for a nicer woven effect.  If you don't have anyone to dance the maypole with, you can create a mini maypole, by setting a small stick into a polystyrene (or paper) cup of plaster, and attaching smaller ribbons to that (a thumb tack in the top works well).  You can then plait the ribbons around your mini maypole for the same effect.  You may like to keep your maypole for the following year, and attach new ribbons over the top of the woven ones from the year before.  Or you may like to unravel them and use the same ribbons each year.

When you have finished, you can now hold the simple feast.  Eat breads, seeds, nuts and the fruits of the season.  Don’t forget to leave some as an offering to the Goddess and God which you should pour/crumble into the ground, to give back to Mother Earth. When you are ready to end the circle, stand before the Goddess candle and say:

“Farewell O’ loving Goddess, I thank you for your assistance and protection, Both within this circle, and in my life.
I now bid you farewell, may you go in peace and love. Blessed be.”

Blow or pinch out her candle.  Repeat for the God candle. Return to the Eastern candle, say:

“Farewell Guardian of the Watchtower of the East, I thank you for your assistance within this circle.
I bid you now farewell, may you go in peace and love.  Blessed be.”

Blow/pinch out the Eastern candle.  Repeat the above for each of the remaining Elements.  When you have said farewell to the Northern Guardian, walk clockwise around the circle, imagining the white fire that created the circle retracting back into your Athame/Wand/finger.  Walk around doing this 3 times, and when you have returned to the northern point again, put down the Athame/Wand and say:
“May the circle be open, but unbroken”

The ritual is now ended. It is done!

Ostara is a time to start afresh.  One spell to do during this time is to make a list of all the injustices done to you, or done by you.  Spend the week before Ostara to try to make amends for those you have done, and to make peace with those who have done them to you.  (Also try to pay back all debts).  If you have no injustices, simply write a list of all unfinished business you have and try to finish those.  Once you have done this, burn or bury the paper to symbolically get rid of the injustice.  During Ostara day take some seeds and plant them to symbolise the growth of a new phase of your life.

You can now hold the simple feast.
