Writing a Full Moon Ritual

To write a Full Moon ritual, start with a basic ritual and work around that.

First you cast the Circle, and then you can do any Lunar celebrations, then any spells you wish to perform and raising the cone of power (if you wish), observe a simple feast, then dissolve the Circle.

I like to do any Lunar celebrations before any spells because if you raise power you need to ground the energy afterwards.  To do this you can simply place your palms and forehead on the ground and release any excess energy into the ground.  The simple feast (also called Cakes and Ale) is partly as a celebration, and partly because eating something will also help to ground you.  So it makes the ritual flow better (In my opinion) to have the celebration part first, then any spells, then the raising of the power, and then the Simple feast.

You might like to incorporate as many things into your ritual that honour the Moon or Lunar Gods and Goddesses as will flow nicely.  See my page on the moon for some ideas.

After you have worked out what you will do and use, it is time to work out how you can make them into a flowing ritual.  Work out how you can write the ritual so that you can include all the symbols you wish to use.  Will you have words in the ritual?  Work out what you want to say, and then work out how you can say that in a rhyme, or a flowing verse.

There is nothing wrong with doing simple celebrations either.  Like simply gazing at the moon, saying a poem, lighting a white candle....  If you feel you *must* do a celebration to honour the moon, I believe you may as well not bother.  The idea is to show your reverence to the Moon/Goddess, and if you believe simply lighting a candle on a Full Moon (not doing a ritual or Circle or anything) is fine, then it is perfectly acceptable to do just that.
